A Night in a Stranger’s Backyard

Sleeping beauties

There is budget travelling and then there is SUPER budget travelling. In Siofuk around Lake Balaton in Hungary, my Bulgarian travel buddies refused to spend a cent on accommodation. Not being one to say no to saving a few cents I agreed to spend the night outside on the grass, it was good weather after all. Unfortunately, I lacked the equipment the Bulgarians had, I had no sleeping bag or sleeping mat… but thanks to a few beers to help me sleep I made it through a night.

The actual location we found was not a park or a shelter but actually a stranger’s backyard! After walking for a long time looking for an abandoned hotel that we heard people sometimes camped out in we became so frustrated with the weight of all our luggage that we simply camped out on the first piece of grass we found. I think the house may have been vacant but still it is quite risky business to trespass…oops!
