Student travellers  thinking of heading away for a pre-Christmas break should look no further than eastern Europe.

According to a survey recently revealed, eastern European countries are still offering the best valued holidays.

When it comes to buying gifts, Prague and Budapest as well as Warsaw and Krakow offered considerably cheaper prices than Berlin or Paris.

The former Eastern Bloc compared items to those that could be bought in Paris – cameras, perfume, and clothing – and found that Prague offered the best value for the money. The survey found that items were 9 percent cheaper than those in Paris.

When it comes to purchasing jewellery, CDs and wood carvings, student travellers will find good value for their money in Warsaw and Krakow, as the Polish zloty buys almost 6 percent more than it did 12 months ago.

However, those who are interested in eating and drinking for cheap should consider Budapest.

Yet, before booking a flight to a faraway country in the hopes of saving, make sure you do your homework. Pick a city that is going to make your currency stretch further. Eastern European currencies have remained weak, particularly the Polish zloty, which may tempt travellers to jump on a plane.

So when it comes to cities like Prague, Warsaw and Budapest, travellers will find that they get more for their money – making eastern European destinations ideal choices for your pre-Christmas shopping.
