Flyglobespan's collapse left thousands of customers stranded

Have a flight booked with Scottish airline Flyglobespan?  Then you just might be out of luck this holiday season.

Nearly 5,000 passengers were stranded with no way to get home this past Wednesday when Flyglobespan’s umbrella company, the Globespan Group, collapsed.  All but 100 of the company’s employees were let go at a moment’s notice.

The Globespan Group is doing all it can to help its distressed customers and employees, and has even opened up two dedicated phone lines to deal with the large number of passengers affected by the collapse.

“Our key focus has been on travelers and employees and we are acutely aware of the distress this situation has caused them,” Bruce Cartwright, head of business recovery services at PricewaterhouseCoopers Scotland said.

“We will continue to ensure Globespan customers have all the information they require to both return home or to determine the next steps in terms of whether or not they can secure refunds.”

Other airlines have been active in helping out stranded passengers and employees.  Virgin Airlines flew back 60 abandoned crew members who were stuck in Delhi and Dubai. Other airlines including EasyJet and tour operators like Thomson and First Choice have offered support to holiday travelers affected by the collapse.
